The Arecanut palm, commonly known as Betel Nut Palm or Pakku Maram, is a tall, slender, evergreen palm.It grows up to 12–20 meters in height with a straight, smooth, ringed trunk and a compact crown of long, feathery pinnate leaves at the top.The plant begins flowering after 4–6 years. Flowers are borne in branched spadices emerging below the leaves. Fruits are oval to round, green when young and orange-red when ripe, each containing a single hard seed known as arecanut.
